A Taste of the Old West
Located about 30 minutes north of Phoenix, Cave Creek has a rich history that can be traced all the way back to the Hohokam Indians, who hunted the lands and cultivated the fields long before the discovery of the New World in 1492.
Later settled in 1870 by American soldiers, over the last 140+ years the town has witnessed prospectors, cattle ranchers, civil construction project workers, and those seeking health benefits from the dry desert climate. While Cave Creek has evolved over time, it has managed to maintain its natural Sonoran Desert beauty and Old West charm.
Outdoor Recreational Activities
Today, Cave Creek is home to an eclectic mix of only about 5,000 full-time and seasonal residents who appreciate an uncrowded, slower-paced lifestyle, but with easy access the Phoenix amenities. Residents are proud of their town and respectful of the desert land that they call home. Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area and Cave Creek Regional Park offer thousands of acres for recreational activities of all kinds, including hiking, off-road biking, ATVs, horseback riding, wildlife watching, archaeological site visits, geocaching, and star gazing.
Shopping and Dining
Despite its small town charm, Cave Creek offers excellent shopping, dining, and cultural activities. Sip a cup of hand-roasted coffee from the Firecreek Coffee Company while strolling the downtown art galleries and shops. Then grab a tasty burger at the historic Horny Toad restaurant before setting out an easy bike ride across Sonoran Desert trails.
If golf is your game, don’t miss the par-70 Rancho Manana Golf Club, which has been voted one of Arizona’s most scenic golf courses as well as one of the “Places to Play” by Golf Digest.
For a taste of Old West History, don’t miss Fiesta Days in April or Wild West Days in November. Other events include the Thunderbird Arts and Wine Festival, Hidden in the Hills Artists’ Studio Tour, and the annual Christmas Pageant and Luminaria Run.
Cave Creek Real Estate
Cave Creek real estate is as varied as the town’s history. Despite a limited number of opportunities, Cave Creek properties range from condos in the $100,000 range to multi-million dollar gated estates to acre-plus land parcels with views of forever. Cave Creek is at a higher altitude than Phoenix and the terrain is sloping in places and quite hilly in others, providing unique opportunities.
